Nuggets of Infomation and Wish List

Did You Know?

  • When we moved into our covered arena six years ago, our covered facility was completely paid for - thanks to East Texans, the Meadows Foundation, Hillcrest Foundation, and the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation.  East Texans provided 78% of our facility building cost.
  • Once a horse has been accepted into our program they remain with us for the rest of their lives.  It is our responsibility to provide the necessary education a horse needs to have a career in therapuetic horsemanship programs, and it is also the staff’s responsiblity to manage the horses correctly so they do not burn out.  In 19 years Windridge has not had one horse become disgruntled about being a therapuetic riding or driving horse.
  • All Windridge instructors were first volunteers.  Most of our instructors were teen volunteers.  Julia, our Program Director began volunteering at the age of 15 - she volunteered for 8 years before she became an instructor.  Debbie, our Volunteer Coordinator moved to Longview, Texas after graduating Liberty University (located in Virginia) to be a part of Windridge.  She volunteered for 5 years before becoming an instructor.  Each instructor will tell you they are blessed beyond words to be a part of Windridge’s staff.  Collectively the staff has volunteered 43 years!

Wish List

If you would like to assist us with an item on our wish list, please contact us at windridgetx@aol.com or (903) 797-2414.

  • Volunteer Welder:  We need welders who will volunteer their time to assist us in building our perimeter fence out of pipe.
  • Arena Dust Treatment:  Our arena dirt is treated in order for us to maintain a dust free environment for the health of our riders.  Financial assistance of $3,127.41 would be greatly appreciated to aid us in the purchase of the commercial product we use to treat our arena surface.  This treatment lasts for five years.  The product name is Arena RX if you would like to look up the product.  We have been very pleased and impressed with this product.
  • Rider Scholarships:  Scholarships are needed by 63% of the children and adults who participate in our therapeutic horsemanship programs.  There are many reasons why riders need assistance; high medical bills, no insurance or insurance caps, and high gasoline costs all contribute to the strain put on a families budget.  - It costs $1,170.00 for one scholarship for one year.  Or, the cost for a session scholarship is listed as follows.
    • Fall Session Scholarship - $330.00
    • Winter Session Scholarship - $360.00
    • Spring Session Scholarship - $240.00
    • Summer Session Scholarship - $240.00
  • Horse Sponsorships: Our horses are the heart of our therapeutic horsemanship programs and are our four legged employees.  All of our horses are donated and remain with us for their life time once they have been accepted as a Windridge horse.  At this time, we have 22 horses that serve our children and adults who participate in our programs and the annual cost to care for one horse is $1,000 for 1 year or, $85 a month.
